Our client is a busy family living in Belsize Park, London. They are looking for an experienced domestic couple.

The family lives in a recently refurbished large house. They have five children aged between 21 and 5 who are at home part time and at other times away at school/university. They spend much of the school holidays away from London. When they are at home, the place is very busy but for 10-15 weeks of the year the house is empty. The family has a full-time lady who does most of the cleaning and laundry and some basic cooking and child-minding/baby-sitting. They also employ a nanny who is going to have a baby in December.

The roles we are looking to fill consist of the following:

Housekeeper:

Someone who can manage the house, shopping, some cooking, some cleaning. Someone who can take children to and from school and other activities and help the younger ones with their homework. Someone who can do some level of cooking and certainly assist in preparation for dinner parties. Someone who can assist in administrative and secretarial tasks. Someone who can manage the cleaner.

Gardener/Driver/Handyman:

Someone who can look after their recently created garden, which is a reasonable size by London standards, who can do some London driving and airport runs and look after the cars, who can do basic handyman tasks, who can take children to and from activities, and be generally helpful.

Living Arrangements

Our client does not generally want live in staff when they are at home. However they want the couple to be live in when they are away. They will provide a good quality one-bedroom flat very nearby and a one bedroom flat in their house and the couple will live in their house as directed but principally when the family is away. When they are away for any extended period they will expect the couple to be present in the house overnight even on their days off except by prior agreement in exceptional circumstances. The summary is that for most of the time the couple will live out in a flat that the family provides and pay for but for 10-15 weeks of the year and occasional other short periods the couple will live in.

Hours and Days of Work

Normal hours will be 7.30am – 7pm during school term time and 9.00am -5.00pm in holidays and weekends. They will expect the Housekeeper to work alternate weekends approximately during term time and to have days off in lieu during school holidays. On some occasions (approximately five times per year) the housekeeper will be asked to come to their house in France for those weekends, primarily to help with children. (The house in France is fully-staffed separately.) Furthermore there will be a need for baby-sitting on average one evening per week.

Attributes

The family are experienced employers having employed personal staff for thirty years. They value hard work, common sense, a positive attitude and a smile. They are looking for a couple who is fit,  flexible, adaptable and who are willing to help out wherever is needed. The couple should like children.

This is unlikely to be a good fit for anyone who has not had at least one substantial and sustained role for a period of several years.

Clean driving licences, CRB checks and great references also required.

Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary:  Very competitive for right candidates.
